Careful Work, Clear Advice

See It for Yourself

Photos From Inside Your Chimney, Shared on the Spot

It is hard to judge a chimney you cannot see into. So when we find something worth discussing, Chimney Sweep North Vancouver takes a photo and shows you right away: a glazed patch of creosote, a cracked tile, a burner covered in dust. That turns a Chimney Cleaning from a service taken on trust into one you can follow with your own eyes. The same goes for Gas Fireplace Maintenance, where a picture of the pilot assembly says more than a description ever could. Homeowners in North Vancouver get to see exactly what we see.

Flue Pictures Taken as We Work

A small camera or phone captures the inside of the flue after the brushes come out, so a cracked tile or stubborn glaze can be pointed to rather than just mentioned.

Burner and Pilot Close-Ups

Photos of the burner ports, pilot assembly and vent connection make it easy to see what was dirty, what looked worn and what is in good shape.

Why Choose Chimney Sweep North Vancouver
Checking the Pull

We Test How Well Your Chimney Draws, Not Just How Clean It Looks

Smoke and Airflow Observed

A small test with a smoke stick shows which way air moves at the opening and in the flue, which tells us whether the chimney is pulling or pushing back.

Readings on Request

Where a number helps, a gauge measures pressure at the appliance. You see what the chimney does when the fire is cold, warming and hot.

Causes Traced, Not Guessed

Poor draw can come from a narrow flue, a closed vent elsewhere in the house or a blocked cap. We rule these out one by one before suggesting a fix.

What Homeowners in North Vancouver Say About Us

Hear from homeowners in North Vancouver about how Chimney Sweep North Vancouver transformed their chimney and fireplace experience with reliable, professional services you can trust.

Smoke began drifting into our living room whenever we lit the fireplace at our house in Blueridge. I called Chimney Sweep North Vancouver, and their technician found a damaged chimney damper, replaced it carefully, and tested the airflow. The fireplace now vents perfectly, and I am incredibly grateful.

Blueridge

A section of mortar started crumbling from the chimney at our place near Central Lonsdale after several days of heavy rain. Chimney Sweep North Vancouver removed the loose material, repointed the joints, and applied a protective seal. Everything looks solid again, and the crew left the property spotless.

Callum Fraser

Central Lonsdale

We kept hearing scratching sounds above the fireplace in our home at Deep Cove. Chimney Sweep North Vancouver inspected the chimney, safely removed a squirrel nest, cleaned the flue, and installed an animal-proof cap. I am so relieved that the chimney is secure and quiet again.

Nadia Sutherland

Deep Cove

Water stains appeared around the fireplace ceiling in our townhouse at Lynn Valley during a storm. Chimney Sweep North Vancouver traced the leak to failing chimney flashing, replaced the damaged sections, and sealed the surrounding roof area. The next rainfall caused no leaks at all. Excellent, dependable work.

Julian Park

Lynn Valley

Our gas fireplace produced a strange soot pattern at our apartment in Lower Lonsdale, so I contacted Chimney Sweep North Vancouver. Their specialist cleaned the venting system, corrected the burner settings, and checked for carbon monoxide. The flames now burn evenly, and I feel much safer using it.

Marissa Chen

Lower Lonsdale

Cold air kept pouring through the fireplace at our property in Pemberton Heights even when the damper was closed. Chimney Sweep North Vancouver discovered gaps around the chimney throat, completed the necessary sealing, and installed a better-fitting top damper. The room feels warmer, and the draft is completely gone.

Derek MacKenzie

Pemberton Heights

I noticed several pieces of clay inside the fireplace and worried that the flue liner was deteriorating. Chimney Sweep North Vancouver performed a camera inspection, confirmed the damage, and installed a new stainless steel liner. They explained every step clearly, and I am thankful my fireplace is safe again.

Elise Beaumont

Canyon Heights

My chimney developed a strong smoky odor that remained even when the fireplace was not being used. Chimney Sweep North Vancouver completed a deep creosote removal, treated the interior with a professional deodorizer, and improved the chimney cap ventilation. The unpleasant smell disappeared completely. I could not be happier.

Owen Sinclair

Edgemont

After purchasing an older home, I asked Chimney Sweep North Vancouver to inspect the fireplace before we used it. Their technician uncovered hidden cracks in the smoke chamber, repaired them with heat-resistant material, and completed a full safety test. Their thorough work gave our family real peace of mind.

Priya Sandhu

Roche Point

A loud rattling noise started coming from the chimney whenever the wind picked up. Chimney Sweep North Vancouver found that the metal cap had loosened and was beginning to separate. They secured it properly, replaced damaged fasteners, and checked the masonry. The chimney is quiet now, and I appreciate their fast response.

Seasoned Hardwood

Wood split and dried for long enough burns hot and clean, leaving less residue on the flue walls.

Dry Kindling

Thin, dry pieces get a fire going quickly so the flue warms and starts drawing before the heavier logs go on.

Simple Firestarters

Plain paper and small starter sticks are enough. Flammable liquids have no place near a fireplace.

No Treated Lumber

Painted, stained or pressure-treated wood can give off harsh fumes and leave odd deposits, so it stays out of the stove and fireplace.

No Trash or Plastics

Packaging, plastics and wrapping paper burn dirty and can foul the flue quickly, which is why we ask you to keep them out.

Wet Wood Warnings

Hissing, smoky wood is a sign of moisture. We show you how to check with a meter or a simple knock test.

When It Misbehaves

A Fireplace That Smokes, Smells or Sulks: Where to Begin

When a fireplace stops behaving, people tend to blame the wood, the weather or themselves. Often the cause is simpler and easier to fix than expected. The answers below suggest where to look first and when to stop poking around and bring in help. If your fireplace in North Vancouver has developed a habit you do not like, tell Chimney Sweep North Vancouver what it is doing.

Some areas set emission rules for new stoves and encourage owners to retire very old ones, so it helps to read local requirements before you buy, sell or replace. A newer stove’s label lists its emission details. An older stove can still be safe to use if the chimney and connections are sound, though it tends to burn less cleanly. Your municipality can tell you about any restrictions in North Vancouver or an exchange program.

White crust at mortar joints is often lime or other minerals leaching out as water passes through. New masonry and recent repointing are especially prone to it while the mortar fully cures and dries. If the crust is on an older chimney and keeps coming back, the joints may be open or the chimney may be taking in water from above. A sound crown and a cap on top reduce what the masonry has to absorb.

Open the damper fully, then lay a small bed of crumpled paper or a fire starter, dry kindling on top and a few small splits above that. Light it and let the flame catch before adding larger logs. Many people favor a top-down build, with the biggest logs at the bottom and kindling on top, since it burns cleanly and needs fewer adjustments. Never use gasoline or lighter fluid.

New does not mean maintenance free. A chimney built last season can have creosote, a nest, construction debris left in the flue or a gap that was missed. Many people have a first inspection done before the first burn and then follow a yearly pattern. Wood stoves and inserts, especially, can foul a flue quickly if the wood is damp.

Start with fresh batteries in the remote, then check the battery pack in the receiver, which is often hidden inside the unit or behind a panel. Make sure the remote is set to the right mode and that the on/off switch on the receiver is not turned off. Some models need a reset or re-pairing sequence found in the manual. If it still will not respond, a qualified gas technician can test the receiver and the controls.

Request photos or camera footage taken before and after the cleaning. They double as a record of how the liner looked that day, which is handy if something seems different later. A careful technician also explains which tools were used and mentions anything unusual found since the last visit.
